Our Profile

Gordon Cairns MA , BEd(Hons), DMS, TCert, Pract NLP CIPD

Experienced in both the academic and business worlds I have been an MBA Director, a scholar at Harvard and a Lead Learning and Development Manager for AMEC (UK) Plc.

One of my specialisms is the facilitation of high level business meetings. I have been responsible for guiding corporate project teams through all phases of multi-million pound contracts.

I have established and run a Learning and Development function form scratch and showed measurable increases in performance by orientating the service to the operational objectives and strategic plan of the business. By developing the skills attitudes and behaviours necessary to achieve KPI's, and allying these to an operational structure focussed on their achievement, commercially measurable success was achieved in such areas as sickness absence and reduction in the timescale of new staff from recruitment to operational effectiveness by 12 weeks.

I specialise in the analysis of performance levels necessary to achieve operational results. Using modelling techniques, and by applying these to the behaviours skills and knowledge of the highest performers in an organisation, a template of a high performing person can be obtained which has a number of applications and implications for generating both savings and productivity.

This is the heart of performance management.

It is my belief that most managers need high performing people to meet their operational objectives, but have neither the time nor the skills to achieve this quickly. To do this in today's highly pressurised business environment requires understanding of the commercial imperatives which drive all businesses, and a grasp of the psychology of learning. This is where my academic background meets my operational experience, and it is the inspiration behind "The Behavioural Balance Sheet" approach to performance management used by GC Consultants.
